Chances are B’East & anyone else killing cameras isn’t hiding any great secrets. (Probably no bunker building under a new B’East wing). There’s not much to see so why build backup video systems for grass growing?
Watching mowing, trail cutbacks, excavators and the like is fun for us. But Hot wires are targets for mice, lightening, water & large equipment. I saw a Piston Bully blade go thru a Lighting electric conduit one evening, really bright flash followed by darkness and a mad scramble to make the hill light.
At Crotched no one but an electrician is allowed to touch electrical stuff while it is hot, which is probably the reason broken cams don’t get fixed quickly. The one exception they made at CM was allowing patrol to turn on a light tower patched into a Meyers box (snowmaking power box), I’ll let Joshua give a first hand report of that!
Some mountains do seem to make an extra effort to provide video when something of interest is going on like a new lift, rebuilding a burned out base lodge or even mowing. Remember the Hermitage sending out it’s entire base buildout?, that was worthy webcam work. Unfortunately there is very little of interest going on this year due to the economy., Chances are most publicity staff are at best seasonal, so don’t expect anyone to react until fall.
On the bright side we do have the SJ ‘spies’ on the hills ready to report any really juicy stories or dirty laundry in a great gossip format.
