ciscokid Joshua did I miss a special birthday, or are you not quite an octogenarian ? Saying best season in 18 years says something from our respected Crotched resident. Do you ever take walks through the lost area of onset Bobcat in you spare time? Did you used to ski there when it was fully open?

joshua_segal [unknown] I have a real birthday and a Skiing birthday. The Skiing birthday is the day in which I do the marathon: that is one run for each year of my age at my next birthday. So I am not 80 for another couple of months.
Beast Patroller joshua_segal Early congratulations on your 80th birthday! Wow, that’s some tradition to ski a run for every year of age! What’s your secret to being able to ski that many runs in a day? I’m 66 and I doubt I could ski that many runs in a day.
joshua_segal CM coasts to their March 29 projected closing date. Beside the normal March temperatures, the mountain weathered them well, with a few small storms plus great grooming. I’m still voting this season as the best of the last decade and possibly the best of the century to date (at least at Crotched Mountain)..
joshua_segal Beast Patroller Thanks for the birthday good wishes. You ask for my secret to doing 80 runs at my age - or for that matter, any age: You’ve got to have a high speed lift. The lift must be steep (e.g. CM’s rises 880 vertical in 3300 linear) The area must have night skiing. It takes about 10 hours to do 80 runs. 8 to 4 won’t cut it. One must be able to ski efficiently. Use gravity, let turns skid rather than carve, ski only groomed runs. Be able to stand on your feet for 70+ miles. Must be done on a day when no lift lines are anticipated.
joshua_segal One other thing: It can’t be too cold that one needs frequent breaks and it can’t be a powder day because it’s too much of a distraction!
joshua_segal March 30 featured the employee-only event. Only UFO/Equinox went unskied that day with soft cream-cheese snow. T2B should be available to those who want to skin, snowshoe or just hike up the mountain.
ski_it Not fully posted? Closed for the season Sunday, March 29, 2026.🥲 Glad you had a great year y’all. I do like (for the public) that they ran the employee-only event on a weekday unlike others that do it on a Sunday
DrJeff ski_it _ The Monday employee ski day is pretty much a standard Vail operating procedure. If the weather allows, they’ll end the season to the public on a Sunday, then spin a lift and serve some food for a few hours on a Monday for employees

Beast Patroller I skied there on Monday and though conditions were pretty good the bare spots were popping up and growing all day. Giving the rain yesterday & last night along with forecasted temps in the 50s to low 60s and more rain thru Easter Sunday, I hope you have something outside of Carinthia to ski on?
