It's been ten years, we're calling in a bigger boat
Chris
Hello SJ'ers!
I'll be sharing some more information with you all soon about what's taking shape, but here's a bit of good news you can look forward to... I'm happy to announce that we are in the building stages of a new modern discussion driven site for the SJ community!
Our SJ 2.0 admin has very graciously hosted the community for the past 10 years, and he stepped up to host the site when I wasn't able to continue back then. Without the Admin's efforts, the community wouldn't be alive today. Many cheers and a well deserved round of applause for the efforts of our SJ 2.0 admin!
SJ officially started in 2001, and actually had its early roots a bit earlier than that, circa 1999. Can you believe we've been going for 25 years now? Wow! (My steady ongoing mid-life crisis and gray beard can believe it!)
To all members, it is your community driven focus and continued participation which has kept this community alive all these years.
In the coming days, I'll be sharing more about the vision for the future and the upcoming new site launch.
In the meantime, I'd love to hear your comments and ideas about what you might like to see in next version of Snow Journal?
Best regards,
Chris B.

Hi Chris! thank you for supporting the old SJ for 25+ years! I cannot believe it seven years since I met you and Tim at WV.!
My nephew actually is an ambassador there now.
Looking for some more great things on Snowjournal!
I would like to see Snowjournal continue without any advertising, that is what makes stand out
Chris
7 years ago at WV, I remember! I do miss being up there.

Thank you SJ 2.0 Admin for keeping the community going!
Nice to hear that the forum is getting an upgrade. I've always enjoyed our unique mix of topics, discussions, and personalities.
I don't have any specific thing that I want to see in the next version. But I don't want to see the site "social-media-fied", if that makes sense.

I agree with the sentiment that I really don't want to see too many drastic changes. However, my one ask is that photo uploading is easier. The limit in photo size is understandable, but I know a bunch of us have been having issues with photos within the size limit.
Thank you to the current, past, and future admins for keeping this site going!

Yes, thanks so much to you all for creating and keeping this site going. I've learned alot and I'm still learning. I wasn't even in on this anywhere near the beginning but way back when, more info could be found here on many smaller & NELSAP ski areas than anywhere else.
Website chgs. IDK. Well once I asked if there was code to rotate pics but that didn't go well... I'm sure the upgrade will include most that I could think of.
Chris !! I was actually thinking of you the other day when I happen to re-noticed my profile pic that uses your purloined graphic. Thanks again!

Perhaps an olive branch to Rocket21?

Thank you Chris and Quint. Looking forward to new and exciting things

Thanks folks for all you do. I'd agree with others - not looking for much to change. I like the basic interface - it's a large part (aside from the community) of why I choose to interact here over social media webpages.
The only thing that's a minor inconvenience is that drafts should maybe be truly filed away. If I start to make a comment on a thread but choose not to, I don't want to have to delete that text every time I want to make a separate comment under that thread for the foreseeable future.

Besides Chris and Quint, I want to thank Joshua for keeping a good eye on things here, and consider Crotched one of my favorite revitalized from the dead small areas no matter who owns it It’s all about the hands on folks who run the show both here online and on the mountains!

Shouldn't this be labeled a "Snowjournal 3.0" announcement?
Chris
Version 2.9 for a few more days ;)

+1. Rocket21's NewEnglandSkiHistory.com is a resource that is frequently quoted on SJ.

I love that site. Is he no longer a poster a here, anyone know why?
As for SJ, I think the biggest thing would be making sure the posts stay here, I’ve seen upgrades happens and all the topics or a large portion of them are lost. A lot of written ski history can appear on these forums, it would be a shame to lose it, especially as some members have since passed on.
Lastly, I hope things don’t get over complicated. KISS.
Thanks for hosting and keeping SJ going. The lists and NELSAP talk are always good discussions.

The rocket man JC was one funny original Nelsapper and Snowjournalist . He had me in stitches multiple times. There are some disagreements here once in a while not sure what happened but to run his NE ski history site I don’t know how he had time here. Was fortunate to meet him 7 years ago 1/6/19 at Crotched with a good SJ member turnout. He married Brianna( I’m almost positive that was her name) and I’m sure he is a busy body and a good husband and hopefully has the joys of being a papa by now. Not sure but I had utmost respect for him and still do.
Same with Chris.

I always thought it had to do with a photo spoof that Chris kept posting on SJ.1. However, the fact that he never returned to SJ.2 must mean there was more to it.

I thought it was the other way round, but whatever…that’s not a site content change
Chris
There were some issues a long time ago, but that was a long time ago. A forward thinking view would be that he is certainly welcome to join us and I personally hope he will.
