I am intending to save all of the existing content, and transfer it to the new site. That is also the current stage of progress with the new build... The migration path from the Vanilla Forums to the new system has been identified and in I am in progress of working with that.
Community first!
I believe discussion forums are not outdated or obsolete. They have a distinctly different focus than social platforms. That said, there is a social element inherent in the shared group dialog and experience, which I want to enhance appropriately. However, I too don't intend for this to be "just another social network".
There are some options on the new platform for "social" type features. I think some of these can be useful for enhancing dialog and helping make the site more engaging and fun. I don't think we will be "friending" or "following" each other, but I think we will try a basic "like" feature. We may also try a few simple emoji-based reactions in addition to the basic "like" feature. If anyone is interested, there is also an upvote/downvote if there's interest in the community for that.
In general, I think we will be able to have some ways to interact with posts which are more modern, but still with a discussion forum format. Probably means no endless scrolling though. (sorry gen z folks, lol)
We are intending for the moderators to remain, and all existing member accounts to transfer over.
Anyway, keep the suggestions coming. I appreciate all of it, and I'm working feverishly over here to get the new site up and running in top shape before we go too crazy with any major format changes.
(Also trying to get this done before we blow another bandwidth cap!)
More soon, cheers! :)
I appreciate the lack of endless scrolling. I hate that part of social media - simply a time suck.
