It’s on the trail map.  It’ll be public.  Private lifts never show up on trail maps like the SMS Poma at Stratton or the double at the South Peak private housing at Loon.

“semi-private” means it was paid with a mix of private and public funding.

It will be a public lift….. that is always closed for private race training.

There are exceptions. GMVS TBAR and Poma are on the map for Sugarbush.

At least they got the name of the lift right. Saw the thread title and instantly knew what lift was involved. Given all of the horrid trail naming that has happened at Cannon in recent years, glad to see a historical name deeply tied to the mountain used for the new lift.

What’s special about the name “Valar”?

in 1949, Swiss Paul Valar and Austrian Paula Kann arrived in the area. Paul would found the Franconia Ski School at Cannon, and with Paula, would run the ski schools at Mittersill and Mount Sunapee through the 1970s.Maybe “semi-private” will mean we can take the lift up but can’t go down the racing trail.

What, you don’t like ‘Zoomalanche’?

I thought for sure this new lift would be called the ‘FSCTbar’. 

And for the record, my username is NOT a tribute the egregiously re-named trail at the summit. At least they had the decency to go back to ‘Profile’.
