Visiting ski areas/resorts in the summer

Who here is planning a visit to a winter resort this summer? I’ll be at Park City this August with my youngest to hike the trails, ride the mountain coaster, and make sure the micro brews are only of the FINEST quality. 😎

I'll be at my place near Mt Abram this weekend and will check out Mt Abram's MTB setup, and might swing by to see what the Christian Music fest is about at SR, just as a sightseer. If the weather gives us a break, I may do a few hikes.

I stayed at Mt Snow's Grand Summit Hotel this past weekend for a wedding in the area. Enjoyed lots of local beers but no hiking with that heat on Sunday. We bee-lined back home to the lake instead.

I plan to be in Rangely for a long weekend in August and most likely will go up to Saddleback to check in on the new lift install and grab some food and drinks at the pub.

I’ve already been to Loon for the Friday evening MTBing from 4-8 for $20. Lots of fun and some well maintained flow trails. Oh ya, and a fox den viewable from the chairlift ride and you ride right by it on your bike. One pup was out on the dirt pile watching us cruising past.

I know it's not a ski area, but if any of you mountain bikers make it up to Freeman Ridge Bike Park, I work there most Thursday nights and weekends and would be happy to meet any of you! Lots of great flow trails and close to other riding at Titcomb and Carrabassett Valley.

We visited Loon last summer, it was nice to get out during the pandemic. They loaded every other gondola with the windows open, giving each cabin a trip before reuse.

We'll probably hit the gondola at Bretton Woods and try out the new Switchback Grille.

While not a resort, the Last Chairlift Bar/Brewery is a nice diversion and not far from Tenney.

Interesting Aspen lodging trivia: I stayed two nights slopeside in Snowmass Village over Memorial Day Weekend because it was the cheapest lodging in that part of Colorado ($84 per night/Stonebridge) and my wife and I needed a place to chill before long drive east. Comparable hotels same dates in dusty Glenwood Springs were approx 120-150. The hotel had just reopened from a month of spring cleaning/maintenance. This period is quiet at Aspen/Snowmass and in-between ski season and summer season. 65 degs both days we were there.

We are heading to Jackson, NH, for a long weekend. Hiking is on the agenda.

Went on a lift ride at Cranmore a couple weekends ago. Did the short hike around the summit and had a beer at the summit lodge. They have a good operation there and plan to be back for some of the other activities this summer.

Seems like they're making up for the lack of activities at Attitash and Wildcat. Good for them.

We were planning on Wildcat until we saw they were closed. Wildcat’s loss is Cranmore’s gain. My kids are bummed Attitash won’t have their summer activities this year but between Cranmore and Bretton Woods there will be plenty to keep them busy and those areas will get my money instead of Vail.

Bet there are some PO'd Time Share Owners at ATTITASH. They are really nice units that are well cared for and were a good summer choice if you had kids to entertain. Sounds like this summer the only entertainment will be playing on the Railroad tracks.

Seriously though, it's still a fantastic location with or without the claptrap on the mountain. Personally never saw a need for that stuff to keep kids (and myself) busy in the White Mountains. But I get what you're saying. I think it bodes worse for the ski season. I still can't believe I waited nearly an hour for a lift last season. Vail SUCKS.

Mt Abram's MTB park was hopping yesterday. Westside parking lot was pretty full, and lots of people on the hill. Good to see!!
