Not what I was thinking of, but if it was one tow, I suppose clue #1 fits. It sounds like it became a park, however, so no big store at the bottom.

Right name, wrong state. Milford Twin Tows now has a medium sized "Market Basket" at the bottom.

I recall sledding there with my son in the mid-1990s, so I'm guessing that the Market Basket went in ca. 2000.

How about Wolf Run Ski Area in Vermont? Directly adjacent to a country club with a golf course, and the howl is self explanatory with the name.

Clue 1 is not helpful to any of us who don't know where you live!
Clue 2 suggests it is on or near a golf course: This fits a lot of out-of-business areas!

Glad I created a stumper then! Although it was solved a few hours after I posted by someone who read between the lines!

1. Its primary slopes give it an "M" shape from above
2. Shares the main part of its name with the town its located in (exclude the Mt, Hill, etc part)
3. After burning down due to arson in the latter part of the last century, it ceased operations - though the slopes are still mowed by the owner.
