Rick wins! Ski area on Lyon Mt. in the northern ADKs. ‘Löwenberg’ is German for ‘lion mt’. So, close enough to the exact spelling. I always thought that was a clever name for that place, and had it been built out, it could have been a nice area.Rick is now ‘on the clock’?

Good job Rick- I skimmed right over Lowenberg, not realizing that it translates to Lion (Lyon) Mountain - even though we did one of our best Design Challenges on Lyon Mountain!

Next, this is a lost area I skied as a beginner. Clues:1. Visible from an Interstate highway, or it was until the trees grew back.2. A large stream flows by the base.3. It’s now well developed as a Nordic area.

Two former NY Alpine areas are now cross-country areas: Fahnestock and Garnet Mt. (aka Harvey Mt.).  I passed Fahnestock many times on the Taconic State Parkway (which is not an Insterstate), so I suspect Fahnestock is not the answer.  I actually skied Garnet Mt. in 1973 and it is/was possibly visible from I-87 - and I think there is actually a small stream near the base area.

Hint: some people here might remember which state I skied in as a beginner. Same state as a lost ski area I mentioned earlier.

Ha!  this has to be Colby College, now Quarry Road –  Incidentally they made snow the last two nights and the “main” loop is open!

Well - as far as the stream; a large stream IMO is a river; but since you reject my assertion that it could be seen from the Northway, I accept defeat!

 far as I know you can’t see the ski trails at Garnet Mt/Thirteenth Lake from the interstate unless you are superman

It’s more likely that Joshua Segal is Superman than that Garnet Brook is a large stream. And I’m very familiar with Messalonskee Stream, having almost skied into it on one of my first visits to Colby. Good thing those bushes were there.

OK here goes –  Open and not in New England.

1.  Upside down, lodge and parking at top.  Another lodge and other parking at the bottom 

2. two trail names and a terrain park arguably relate to Star Wars.  Well, two trails relate to star wars, one relates to a character not actually in star wars at all but related.  One is definitely Star Wars.  

3. One beginner trail or slope, served by a double chair, is named for a fundraiser.
