Whitney was in threat of being reverted back to forest preserve after 5 years dormant, and essentially the owners needed to find a partner to operate with to operate so they didn't lose the right to be a ski area. ORDA stepped in around ~93 for a season, maybe two before Whitney permanently shut down. Detailed in the LSAOT Northern Adirondacks.

Anyway - to not give further away and correct your path, my last comment stated Lotsoskiing had stated the correct geographic feature that lies a tad over 2 miles from our lost ski area... The ones they stated were High Falls and Pulpit Rock.

The final task is to locate which ski area that meets clues #1 and #2 lies a tad over 2 miles from a High Falls or a Pulpit Rock in another state.

We're very close now!

Nigh on fitting. Looking for a true set of initials though, and the vertical drop is very similar. You’ve got the right state though! DCSki is your friend.

Anyway - on the ORDA matter; Heres the excerpt from LSAOT Northern Adirondacks: “As the permit to operate the ski area in the Adirondack Park was coming to an end, efforts were made to breathe life back into it. ORDA, which operates Whiteface Mountain, entered into an agreement with the new owners of the Lake Placid Club Property…” It briefly details a bit more about the agreement.

Big Valley (Bolton Valley)
420ft of drop and 10 ish trails makes it one of the largest to close in PA
It lies 2.25 miles from Pulpit Rock in PA; with Pulpit Rock in Lake Placid lying about .7 miles from Whitney. The Lake Placid Folklore hint was an intentional misspelling and correction of “maybe” as “Mabel” Smith Douglass - or better known as the Lady in the Lake. Googling both “Mabel Lake Placid” or “Lake Placid Folklore” have the first article telling you about this interesting story and mention Pulpit Rock immediately in the first paragraph. Aside from the ghost bit, Mabel was in fact real though! Worth a read.

Were you claiming that there were only 2 Pulpit Rocks in the Northeast? I can think of 3 others off of the top my head, one in Maine, one in New Hampshire, and one in Massachusetts. I'm sure there are many others.

Here's an easy one to get the momentum going again:

1. All of the operating overhead cable lifts at this ski area were built by the same manufacturer.
2. This ski area was home to the last operating Roebling lift in the Northeast.
3. Glades at this ski area have signs warning you that "Trees don't move."
