If you have a problem with or at CM, it would be appropriate for you to contact CM for resolution. Season passes are a corporate issue over which CM has no control.

As tedede suggested, I didn't want to presume the new GM couldn't help out. And, I would think a GM where a season pass is good at, would have a interest in the good will of their pass holder. But I guess not.

Anyway - moving on to more positive things. I hope Crotched has a stellar opening day today.

I haven't been following the Vail drama. But I am wondering what is going on with Wildcat?

The day after Christmas during one of their big holiday weeks and they still do not have the summit lift open. As NES13 notes, only one run from the Tomcat and the beginner lift, wow!

Cannon has had multiple top to bottom routes from the summit for weeks. So, it cannot simply be blamed on poor early season weather (both mountains are similar vert, temp profile, and natural snowfall).

Anyone have any inside dirt on what is happening there? Is it snowmaking budget cost cutting? Labor issues? Or snowmaking system issues?

I know that this has been a challenging start to the season and we hear your feedback that you wish more terrain was open. Trust us, we do too. I wanted to take a moment to give you some more insight as to why that is. It is no secret that we, like so many others in the travel and leisure industry, are facing a staffing shortage that is creating challenges for certain departments at Wildcat. This is in addition to the continuous impacts of COVID-19 and the Omicron variant, all while working through our busiest time of year when demand for outdoor experiences is higher than ever.

If you’ve had the chance to visit our resort already this season, you’ll have seen firsthand how hard our team has been working to provide you with a great experience. Without much help from Mother Nature, our team has been working hard to make snow, run lifts and keep you all safe – all with a smile on their faces.

So, as you plan for your holiday skiing and riding, we want to share an update on which lifts are open this week so you can plan accordingly. Beginning this Saturday, we’re planning to operate the Snowcat, Tomcat and Snowbelt lifts daily. Unfortunately, summit access is still not available but we will continue to reevaluate lift schedules and provide an update as soon as possible. I read that this morning. Doesn't really tell you much, especially about summit access/terrain expansion. Nor any commentary on any systems issues they may have encountered. Pretty lame if you ask me.

100% agree. We’ve spoken to MS customer service on Peak & Epic pass issues in the past and they per their script just refer you to corporate. On other types of minor issues at MS and CM, cust. Service has been very helpful.

What set me off is being passed backed and forth between the claims company and Vail cs. IF you can get a person to answer the phone AND combined with the several news reports of people finally getting or not getting refunds on what looks on the face of it to be arbitrary reasons. Then add on top of that the people in ski forums that have similar stories.
I’d be happy to repost all the links to the legitimate news outlets, Channel 5 Boston, NY Times, Summit Daily News if you wish to read them. I going to presume & assume you don’t and didn’t. You that didn’t have pass problems should read this years T&C. An amazing document.

It seems like what your saying is the equivalent of blaming the GM of a VT area because they have to charge sales tax. If the snow was bad; if the food was bad; if the employees were rude, etc.: Those are things that a GM can control.

No, that's not really a great comparison. A GM of a ski area in VT has no connection at all to the government body which determines sales tax. If a pass was sold by the same company that the GM works for, there is already a lot more connection than in your example.

Agreed, pretty lame update. Every area is having issues due to COVID, the Omicron variant is only just recently starting to impact the area, and every area is having labor issues. I do not see anything about Wildcat's specific challenges. Maybe their entire snowmaking staff got sick with COVID and were out for two weeks during peak snowmaking time?

Hurrah! Wildcat now has a second way down from Tomcat, and it's only the last week in December! It still doesn't explain why they've been unable to open the 700 vertical feet from the summit to the top of Tomcat. Can I assume that they've been running one snowgun at a time?

If you come to a Vail property and experience something you are not happy with, by all means if you feel the need to share it on SnowJournal, I am not asking you to stop. Put it in the appropriate mountain thread so leadership can see it. IMO, you should also approach the mountain GM or someone in leadership and describe the situation. If you have a remedy, any good leader loves a problem bundled with an idea for a solution. If it's Crotched on a Saturday, I'd be happy to make a proper introduction.

What really getting annoying is the ringing of hands and gnashing of teeth from the chorus of the nattering nabobs of negativity (you know who you are). This attitude is ruining what I (and I expect others) have enjoyed as a fun place to hang out online.

Weren't you ever taught to ignore people who annoy you and they would eventually go away? Has to be Vail's mantra.

IIRC my neg. posts have been on Pass refunds, quarantines, and back in 2018-2019, during ice storms poor communications & crowds due to lifts not opening. I don't think I've ever complained about snowmaking nor would I. Way too many factors involved. I can't complain about last or this years ops, cause guess what? I haven't stepped foot on Vail's property.

One said they did not find it negative. Not that any of those 4 posters are considered reliable to you. The .5 was my poor response to your response that it wasn't unique policy to Crotched or Vail or any business over 100 employees. I say it was unique to Vail in the ski industry at that time and still is for most of the ski industry & other industries. Ok, NOT Crotched specific, you win!

More problems strike the Summit Triple.

Yesterday it broke and was closed for the remainder of the day with evac on aux power.

Today they stopped loading it for a bit. Now it’s loading every other chair at about 370 fpm (~9.75 seconds per chair).

What's going on at Crotched now? Not only did they close at 2:30 today for "scheduled maintenance," but the Rocket was listed as "on hold" prior to 2:30. Were they only running the West Double today?
