Crotched Mountain - 2021-2 Season

There is continued activity all over the place.
New carpeting was laid on the lift loading ramps, new sign is up at each ramp.
They spread out the whales Thursday night, after the rain event water had time to drain,
Joshua is skiing on a fairly wide Top to Bottom trail which is ready for some fresh cover today (Saturday).

The snow connections to the ramps aren't complete, there are some bare areas around the base a good night of snowmaking should allow them to connect things up. So don't hold your breath for a surprise Sunday opening.

With snowmaking weather returning next week we have to rely on their desire to open with the ability to stay open ASAP.

Meanwhile if you want to see your Crotched friends shoot over to Sunapee.

If you are looking for kids clothing Sunapee's shop had a section in the back of clearance stuff from last year that no one has been there to buy out yet. May be the same when Crotched opens?

IIRC...and I usually don't as u all know, but doesn't CM historically open at the end of Dec. unless there is a dumping? Well at least I don't expect them to, so I certainly wouldn't criticize them about snowmaking in this temperature marginal month.

The only opening day hint is the ticket sales calendar on the website (currently first day is December 24th there), but it is obviously subject to change.

A Crotched tip.

All the hills that are open have limited trails and consequently have fairly uniformly banned all uphill traffic.

With Crotched not open there is enough snow and trail space for uncontested SKINING/TELEMARK traffic. Enjoy while you can, this opportunity won't last beyond opening day. As usual 'at your own risk', no support services and watch out for groomers warning. see webpage.

According to NESH, they usually open late November to mid December, except one year when they opened in late December.

When CM was owned by Peak Resorts, they typically had a soft-opening somewhere between Dec. 7 and Dec. 17. (The exception was the horrible 2015-6 season where they opened the day after Xmas.)

This usually meant opening from 1 PM to 9 PM until the next Friday. Peak Resorts was a mid-western company that understood that they would do better fiscally with the early early afternoon opening which allowed them to run snow guns longer in the morning before temps rose. There was also a significant population who would show up after work in the early season to catch those "first turns".

If I remember right, CM is the only Vail Property in New England with night skiing. No surprise if it takes them a year or two to better understand their market.

Let hope that this pattern changes really soon, starting with Saturday!

So the slump continues as this "storm" completely under performed. :s

To some extent, it depends on which forecast you read. I saw 4-8". The weather service for Bennington said, 5.1" actually fell and a quick measurement outside would suggest that's pretty accurate.

Like you, I would have preferred it closer to 8" or more, but the storm was within its predicted range..

By the time the snow compressed under the weight of the heavy stuff, that's what was on the hill by noon. Never-the-less, Solstice Glade skied OK.

Will all lifts open this year? The Valley Quad and West Double don’t show on the EpicMix app on the live status map.

At Attitash, the West Double-Double doesn’t show either and last week Vail announced it won’t run at all this season due to “imminent replacement”.

More downsizing of NH areas?

I'm sure that West and Valley will run this year. They were working on Valley today and West got a new loading platform. Maybe they are working on new space themed names to go along with Rocket and Rover.

They didn't hire anyone to run the lifts this season.

They have done extensive maintenance on all the Crotched lifts this year including a new bull wheel on West double, a new cable on the now Rover triple and new loading platforms on both of those lists.

The Rocket 🚀 is currently the most ready to go lift since it will be the first lift opened. Snow has been pushed up to the loading ramps; put the ropes up and it's ready to load.

Valley quad & West double look good to go today, just need to blow snow on trails around them and build up the ramps. The triple had its cable changed 2 weeks ago, the new cable is still stretching, is not tensioned and doesn't have the chairs on it but should be ready by the time they have snow around it or need it.

They have been producing good quality snow for over 24 hours and the hill is looking increasingly ready to greet skiers on two top to bottom routes. Just needs a little time to dry out and get pushed out.

Thank your snowmakers when you see them they've been drawn from every department to get the job done.

No, they have been focused on the east side trails. The two top to bottom trails there have enough snow to assure that they can stay open once the area opens. Pushing out snow tonight.

They did lay down enough snow on the carpet area to get that open for the ski school.

They are clearing building decks and performing other last minute tàsks.
BREAKING NEWS SUNDAY WILL BE OPENING DAY.... until then skinnmg should be available..

We are over-the-moon excited to announce that Crotched Mountain is opening for the 2021-22 winter season on Sunday, December 26! Hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Planned trails for opening day are: Moonwalk, Satellite Summit, Meteor, Cosmic Blast, Galaxy, CM Park (no features), Supernova, Carpet, Reentry, Zero G, Velocity, Milky Way, Big Dipper and Magnitude. Planned opening-day lifts are: Rocket, West Lift, Valley Lift and Launch Pad (carpet lift).

Yikes! It's going to be interesting to see what happens opening on one of the busiest days of the season, during a holiday week, with lots of passes blacked out down the road in VT.
