Chuckstah;c-52274 wroteYikes! It's going to be interesting to see what happens opening on one of the busiest days of the season, during a holiday week, with lots of passes blacked out down the road in VT.
what a disaster

At least they aren't forcing the staff to open Christmas Eve or Christmas Day and they are planning on running three lifts. There inevitably will be more hiccups, and the lines might even be bad, but perhaps the short hours are so that they can have all hands on deck with the staff they do have. I don't see it destined to be a disaster other than the later than usual start.

So, shortening the hours helps Vail get to where they need to be? Interesting prospective. I agree - reducing hours helps Vail!

Shortening hours doesn't make people happy for sure, and may cause worse lines, but maybe it lets them open the third chairlift and have all the ancillary services running. It's all about 'the experience.' ;)

I question if there will be enough parking. It looks like the on mountain experience will be much better than Wildcat, on par or better than Attitash, and very similar or better than Sunapee. I think a LOT of Epic holders will flood the place.

Hyperbole much?
It was 40 and rained a half inch this morning.
It's all the major trails except Plutos.
You guys remind me of Statler and Waldorf except they were funny.

9:00 to 5:00 are normal hours on a Sunday. Only needing one shift of staff will help reduce coverage challenges plus ski patrol generally has a healthy presence on Sundays that can be redeployed to a few other tasks if needed.
The snowmakers got a late start on the west side trails, hopefully they'll be in good shape by Sunday.
The hot cafeteria menu includes AM breakfast sandwiches; for lunch burgers, hot dogs, fries and chicken tenders Plus chowder, Mac n' cheese & chili.
The pizza counter will also be open.
The bar is reportedly ready to open with a new pub menu and all taps online. They are trying to get a mug club for this year as well.

Thursday night;
They finished up snow making on Magnitude under the valley quad today. Grooming.is on-going.
Meanwhile they started snow making on the west side on Milky Way, Galaxy, Velocity & Re-entry last night - the effort continues this evening. There appears to be enough water in the pond to finish up what they've started with reasonably good cover by Sunday. Look for 4 good top to bottom routes when they open.

Glad to make it out for a few hours this afternoon. Coverage on the open trails was quite good! Things were getting a little firm with yesterday's ice and the sun going down, but the 2" of snow at the end of the weather event was nice on the sides of the trails. Just great to get out for the 1st time this year! Also had a nice chat with Joshua.

Dec. 26, 2021 - Sun.
It was opening day at CM.
The freezing rain stopped around 4:30AM and the lifties started de-icing the Rocket at at 5:15AM. It was a massive job, but they finally opened the Rocket to the public around 11AM.
There were a lot of open runs:
- Satellite Summit to Meteor: Got pretty icy on SS. Meteor was nice all day
- Moonwalk to Galaxy - Pretty good most of the day.
- Magnitude to a featureless CM Park: Magnitude was very icy. CM park was probably the best snow on the hill.
- Velocity: Pretty good most of the day.
- Super Nova - Pretty good most of the day.
I would say that CM made the most of what the hand they were dealt.
Quietman is one of my favorite people to ski with and although I couldn't take a run with him, it was good chatting with him outside the Patrol Shack.

Thanks for the update Joshua. I'm hoping to get in a few hours tomorrow if things work out.

Thanks for the report Joshua. Glad to hear things are rolling now and no more waiting around. Sounds better than you're average ski area's opening day. Hope they're able to get everything caught back up to normal in the next 1-2 weeks.

Banner on the website says closing 2:30 pm 12/28, please check updates on Twitter…. Nothing on either Twitter handle. What’s going on? Also why have two handles?

Think that it may be a typo
jaytrem
That would be a weird typo. Doesn't look like a weather thing since it seems to get better as the day goes along.
lotsoskiing
From website just now- not a typo, methinks
And report seems to be dated...unless today is opening day (which it isn't)
obienick
Closing early for “scheduled lift maintenance”. You can’t make this up.
So all lifts are broken? And this was scheduled and had to be done THREE days into the season? Couldn’t do it, you know, during the 3 weeks of delay for opening?
Cannonball
This is really strange! I have some friends over there that basically lost their first day of the season to whatever the heck this is all about. They attributed it to **** sucking. But I know that's not allowed here so I'm putting it on CM. Very curious to find out what's up.
