NewEnglandSkier13 TomWhite;c-52857 wroteHere's nice words about Sam on Angry Beavers, a FB group BMOM skiers: Keith Bobrowiecki 22h · I want to shout out to the Black Mountain of Maine family members who took the time this morning to offer to help out with the first day of seasonal lessons. We were worried that we might not have the full coverage required to give our customers the highest level of service. We ended up having a wonderfully prepared group of instructors thanks to Sam Shirley efforts and hard work over these last few years and didn’t need the extra help. BUT is sure felt nice to see all the volunteers standing by willing to be lift buddies or give 1 on 1 time if needed. Honestly too many to tag without offending by missing a few but the corral was full of true BMOM family members standing by to help if needed. I was honestly a bit choked up to see the outpouring of willing people! Thank you from the Snowsports School team!!! Keith is a great asset to our team and the mountain. He volunteers his time, not only to directly help with lessons, but he also runs the snowsports instructor apprenticeship program. This program trains 12-13 year olds who are not yet old enough to work, so they are already well trained instructors when they turn 14. There's no way we'd be able to run lessons and programs as successfully as we do without his help!
skelley19 skelley19;c-52728 wroteLooks like this Friday is finally going to be the day I can check out BMOM on my way to Rangeley. My wife and I are planning to ski/ride there in the afternoon and take advantage of the $25 lift tickets. I don't need to do anything special to get that rate do I? Can you boot up in the lodge or is the parking lot our best bet? Any tips for a first time visit? Hopefully they end up getting some fresh snow in that storm moving through Friday. Unfortunately things did no work out for us hitting BMOM. The timing of the storm made things difficult. We got about 7" in Boylston and it was still coming down heavy at 9 AM when we wanted to hit the road. Looking at traffic to get to BMOM it was going to be driving through a mess just to get there mid-afternoon where they only got a couple of inches. I also didn't want to leave my driveway a mess as we had somebody staying at our house to watch the kids for the weekend. Also I was thinking they had night skiing on Friday so I was in less of a rush to get out the door. We were going through Auburn at 2ish and decided to stop for lunch instead of rushing just to get in a couple of runs. Still very high on my hit list and hopefully I can get there this season after a good snow storm so I can explore the glades. On a brighter note we got in an excellent day at Saddleback on Saturday.
NewEnglandSkier13 January 15 It's very cold out today and a bit windy as well. At open it was -10 with 20 mph winds. However, it's sunny, and the snow is great! Lower Rapid is now open, and snowmaking has moved to the tubing park and Allagash. Tomorrow looks much warmer, and we're hoping for snow on Monday!

NewEnglandSkier13 January 16 It's an absolutely perfect day to be out today! It's sunny with no wind and temperatures in the teens. The mountain is skiing great, and things are looking pretty good for tomorrow's storm! It is a relatively busy day, but there are still no lift lines.
loafasaur Black Mtn ME is about 20 minutes from Farmington and 30 minutes from Bethel. Both are US 2 all the way to 120 in Rumford, a good road.
NewEnglandSkier13 January 17 So far, we've picked up about 6 inches of relatively dry snow, and the skiing is great! There's definitely some wind at the summit, but it isn't affecting operations. Ropes are dropping, and the snow continues to pile up. So far, Sticky, Piscataquis, & Penobscot have opened up. The glades are starting to come into play, and the T-bar line is skiing very well. There are definitely rocks and obstacles to be aware of under the snow, but we're finally getting a real powder day!
NewEnglandSkier13 rickbolger;c-53168 wroteHey that's great, hoping to be there on Thursday. If you're around will say hello! Unfortunately I can't be there Thursday, but I hope you have a great visit!
TomWhite Rick, I'm likely to be there with 3 friends. I'll have a gray, black n orange jacket; black pants, black helmet, my underwear...hum. I'll be with 2 over 6' men and a 5 10 like me.
jaytrem NewEnglandSkier13;c-53180 wroteWe ended up with about a foot total and no rain! Awesome, may try to get there Feb 3rd or 4th. Trying to follow the snow a bit. Ideally get up to Saddleback and some other Indy places too.
NewEnglandSkier13 conrad;c-53185 wroteT-Bar not ready to operate this year? It should be ready to go, they just need to put the carriers on, from what I've been told. The plan is to have it running when high school racing really gets started.
JAM614 The Tbar will be running soon. BMOM is hosing a MARA race on Sunday the 23rd, so hopefully they can allocate some time to hang the T's. According to Snowmaking Ops and they are also hopeful for the Allagash to officially be open soon. A few snowguns are still on the lower half of the trail but need to blow some more snow on the two headwalls. We skied a bunch of lower angle glades on the west side looking for downed trees/branches, all had great coverage, and minimal debris to contend with. One more moderate storm and it will be in excellent condition. A testament to excellent offseason grooming. Great reports Sam!
NewEnglandSkier13 newpylong;c-53206 wroteIs that a Hall T-Bar? Putting the carriers on is awful with those bands! Takes forever. No, it was made by a local contractor by the name of JW Penney. It has regular grips.
NewEnglandSkier13 January 22 Conditions are great, and the entire mountain, except for Kennebago, is now open! There is excellent packed powder on most trails. Untracked snow has set up a bit and is getting dense. Many glades are now skiable with care, but there are definitely still obstacles to avoid.
