Daylight Savings Time

I'm in favor of standard time year round or leaving it the way it is. I don't like getting up in the dark. Does anyone recall the energy crisis of 1973-1974? I'm pretty sure we had DST time year round or possibly double DST. I was in first period algebra in high school prior to dawn. That was not efficient and I can forsee additional accidents at either bus stops or driving to shcool before dawn is DST is year round.

Personally being in Michigan I like it getting dark in the summer at 9;30-10 o'clock, that way I can get a 18 holes of golf in after work. I think a good compromise would be to split the difference and leave it alone

To put on my pedantic cap (or as l like to think of it, channeling my inner @joshua_segal ), at the time the law was passed it was referred to as Daylight Saving time. Singular. Most dictionaries refer to both now.

Fun fact, when DST was implemented the farmers thought the extra hour of daylight would burn their crops.

IMO, avoiding school kids getting making their way to school/busses in the dark should be our top priority.

Everything east of Worcester should be in the Atlantic timezone. I'm fine with dragging everything east of NY with us.

Despite @lotsoskiing's well-founded doubt, the Sunshine Savings Act to make DST permanent passed the Senate by unanimous consent on Tuesday March 15.

agree 100% - I remember when we did this in the early 70s. Didn't think much of it at the time, just thought it was weird. Now in retrospect I recognize how dangerous it was.

Newfoundland’s time zone is 30 minutes ahead of us.
Maybe we should go with that!

I hated early DST back when I was working, getting up in the dark in March and the sun was just rising by the time I got to the office. Now that I'm retired it's good, because the bright sun doesn't wake me up til nearly 8! Heh heh heh.

Normally they open by 9am. Right now there is still some daylight at 7pm, In July you have to wait until 10:15-10:30 for it to be dark enough for fireworks

Standard time in NJ means the sun going down at 7:30pm (rather than 8:30pm) at the latest in the summer and that would suck. Standard time already sucks in Nov, Dec when the sun is going down around 4:30pm. I want more time in the light after work.

We could just settle the entire debate by ditching daylight saving time AND time zones. Switch to UTC and let local communities set operational, business, and school hours.

Standard time year round would not be my preference - a 413AM sunrise in June, with it getting light at 330am, yikes.

I saw a post about Newfoundland and that plus 30 min - I was there in June 2019, at the Solstice, and sunset was at 930pm. It was awesome having sunlight that late into the evening.

Corner Brook (western) Newfoundland sunset at 9:30pm, sunrise at 5:15 am. Long summer days, short winter days up there.

Bill Belichick is in favor of this change. I'm not. Bigger fish to fry. With all thats going on, to have legislative debate or any discussion on this topic is silly. Rubio would have been well served to read the room. Maybe fix a few other problems first.
