That being said, you could not get me on an aerial lift today, even if any run here in NE, which they shouldn't.

Sunday River is currently operating 4 chairlifts and Sugarloaf is operating one, according to their reports. Looking at Sugarloaf's webcam, there are more people than I would expect out there.

Don't know all the particulars of this incident but I can't imagine mountain ops running any lift knowing there was weather that could cause something like this.

I'm not posting this as a bashing and I know it's Christmas Week but Vail (Mt. Snow) has yet another issue they need to address. Numerous people have been posting about the out of control/reckless skiers & riders on the mountain. Most are saying it's not worth your life to ski past 10:30 AM as that's when the "idiots" hit the trails. Though I haven't witnessed it this season (yet), the last year my wife & I had season passes we experienced that same issue.

A lot of the problem stems from people not knowing the responsibility code and/or not caring. Another component is the lack of patrol & ambassadors on the mountain enforcing the code. Back when my wife & I were on patrol, part of our responsibility was to enforce the code and if needed pull tickets/passes for anyone who wouldn't adhere. Apparently the patrol at Mt Snow are not instructed to "police" the mountain and with the lack of ambassadors it leaves the mountain uncontrolled. My last year there I had someone blast past me on my right as I was skiing down the right side of the trail (about 3-4 ft. from the trees) and when I yelled at them they basically told me to go screw myself. All along there was a patroller standing about 50 ft. down the trail (who witness the whole thing) and never intervened.

I hope someone doesn't need to be killed or severely injured before management decides to do something about this.

I don't see how this is unique to Vail at all.

If you were with Mt Snow's Patrol while Peaks owned it, it was not part of your responsibilities.

No it's not unique to Vail but it's really the only mountain that everyone is complaining about. Also, this problem has been around since before Vail bought out Peaks but it has gotten worse since COVID (both the lack of skier/rider responsibility & enforcement)!

It seemed like a lot of people were worried that Vail yellowcoats would crack down on fun at Mount Snow, but they have yet to arrive. I forget if they're at the pre-Peak-purchase Vail resorts or not (Stowe, Okemo, Sunapee?) Are they just a western or I-70 only thing?

Word is that Wildcat, just like most Vail resorts, is super busy this week. However, Wildcat is only running the Wildcat Express and the Snowcat Triple. Tomcat and Bobcat are both closed, even with huge lines.

I've seen complaints piling up at Whitetail in southern PA.

1) The expert pod of trails, serviced by one lift (Experts Choice quad) isn't open and Vail does not have a time table for opening due to "shipping delays" on a lift part supposedly ordered in April.
2) The aging high speed quad (Whitetail Express) at the base area has been the target of a lot of criticism over Vail's deferred maintenance due to consistent break downs and running at a much slower speed then usual.
3) Snowmaking pumps and equipment have failed repeatedly causing Whitetail to miss key snowmaking windows.

Stratton has yellow coats out in force today. One is visible on the Snow Bowl webcam slowing people down and it also looks like they are taking note of people ignoring the slow skiing area.

I suspect you find what you look for and don't think Hunter or K-Mart would fare much differently if you took a closer look there. IMO it's the proximity to the greater NYC area.

I tend to agree with you on that. I know the problem isn't exclusive to Mount Snow but it's one of the reasons we stopped going there. I really want to return but we'll see how the rest of the season goes. As for the problem, I wish people would pay more attention and take into fact that others are out there to have a good time too.

The reality is that group isn't always the best cross section of reality.

Honestly today saw/experienced more folks ducking ropes on trails closed for events than actually skiing recklessly. Granted I certainly wasn't all over the mtn from bell to bell, but saw a bunc

It's unclear why, but there was a rope evacuation on Attitash's new lift recently:

They had it up and running the next day. It was down most of the day the 31st and they were working on it and had it running by late afternoon. What I read somewhere was it’s a bearing issue with the manufacturer and they had the same issue on at Mt. Snow a few weeks ago. That’s probably why they had it up and running so quickly.

I had heard Wildcat was busy last week because the lifts were down, but the days I skied at Attitash were pretty much ski on. Attitash seemed well staffed and much more vibrant than last year.

Apparently Wildcat operated for a few days last week with no running water, yet there was no mention of this on their website or social media. I learned about it from a trip report someone posted on Facebook.
