Hey, I'm listed as a Vail employee above... I may resemble that remark but categorically deny it. I have retained my status as a volunteer NSP patroller at Crotched. No pay, no free ski equipment, no freebee passes for friends & family, buy my own coat, pay my own dues and keep my own attitude.
I do get a limited NE Season Pass and an occasional free lunch at the Top Shack (Thanks Ted) and lots of fun dealing with people while maintaining the right to grouse.
Maybe being closer to what was going on some of us had more sympathy for everyone at Crotched from the new GM on down, because everyone was really trying to get things together. There really were not enough people to do all the work. We got help from Sunapee & Okemo at times as well.
I'll post more on the CM thread as the summer progresses. What I have seen so far indicates that return to normalcy is the intent. There are several more staff evident on the mountain this summer, hopefully everything will be ready for the Fall.
We'll see if 'upstairs' funds some essential larger ticket needs such as some better groomers and a 100% functional snowmaking system.

I was wondering when you were going to wake up and say something. ;)

If you go back in Fall Line Construction’s IG posts they say the only problems with the Double Doubles were “lack of upgrades and maintenance over the past few years”.
IMHO this is pretty damning coming from a mountain’s contractor.
Considering Vail has now owned The x-Peak resorts for a few years at this point, that puts their demise smack dab on Vail.
This seems to correlate with the problems plaguing the Wildcat snowmaking system. Vail claims long standing deferred maintenance as the root cause of the troubles for the Wildcat system yet most of the active water pipe and both pump houses were replaced not long ago. IIRC Vail did upgrades on the booster the summer prior to last season. The pipe on Upper Lynx and booster pumps that went kaput this year were relatively new. After the big pipe freeze there was never snowmaking issues. Seems the issues are with Vail not Peak.

Apparently WMUR can't tell the resorts apart either

Good catch, Ted! For those not in on the joke, the photo is of Crotched Mountain - not Attitash!

Broomfield doesn't care
edit - was going to blame Broomfield, but this was indeed WMUR's gaffe.

It is still an "Outdoor recreation product/experience of a lifetime", so actual location is irrelevant to the Borg.

Apparently Stowe is going to charge $30 for parking on weekends. Soon the parking will be the same as the window ticket price :-)

Correct, and also on Fridays and holiday periods.

On my list! Cheaper for a lift ticket than parking at Stowe.

Suddenly that season pass you got doesn't seem like quite as good of a deal...

It's time like this that I really wish that Barnes Camp at Stowe had stayed in our family. We could have made a killing on parking/lodging lol. It's right across from the Gondola base and right next to Spruce. My grandmother's sister, my Great Aunt Gladys Lyons and her husband Chelsea owned it in the late 40s-late 60s. My Dad and Uncle used to spend summers there. It's now a Visitor's Center and worth a visit.

"The report found Vail Resorts had not only failed to retire the lanyards every year, but resisted doing so.
On June 17, 2017, 10 days after Vail Resorts announced it had closed on its purchase of Stowe Mountain Resort, the director of operations and risk management at Vail Resorts, Jamie Barrow, sent an email to the president of Terra Nova, Eric Cylvick, objecting to Terra Nova’s recommendation that the lanyards be replaced every year if they were under heavy use.
“The term heavy use is undefinable,” Barrow replied. “We are not willing to accept your change to another company’s retirement criteria without a clear safety alert or service bulletin per ASTM We will continue to follow the Petzl retirement data that is clear and definitive.” (ATSM was formerly known as American Society for Testing and Materials.)
The next day, Cylvick wrote back.
“It is our opinion that this is Petzl’s requirement,” Cylvick said, citing the company’s standards for uses ranging from “occasional” to “intensive.”
Terra Nova sent out an additional alert on Oct. 24, 2019, reminding users to replace the lanyards annually.
Again, Barrow resisted. He emailed Terra Nova the same day with a four-point email, including questioning whether Terra Nova did “really intend to have this as a safety alert as this would mean all zip-tours worldwide would need to shut down until all lanyards greater than a year old are replaced.”
Terra Nova maintained that ziplines constituted intensive use and refused to delete the safety alert, the report said.
“The Petzl jane lanyard technical notice was not followed for retirement, nor was the ZipTour ride manufacturer Terra-Nova LLC of Utah recommendation of replacing the lanyard on an annual basis,” the VOSHA report found."

About as damning as it gets. I hope this Broomfield director doesn't have too much sway in lift maintenance. Presumably Terra Nova LLC was happy to turn over all their email correspondence.

So how much would replacement lanyards have cost? Penny wise and pound foolish, it seems.
