Beats closing half your resort with 100% open or close to it like Sugarbush does each season with Mt. Ellen. Brutal.

Agreed, I am just being a smart a**. We reduced our hours in the spring heavily too, night skiing and mid-week. Traffic just tails off.

Ellen is so good in the spring too....

Crotched was closed on Tues & Wed due to a power outage about 1 mile from ski area. Was still not repaired as of 10pm tonight(not the mtns fault!). I may go to Sunapee tomorrow.

CM should be up and running today. Power was restored at 2 AM, 3/16/23.

Liftblog is reporting that the Rover lift has been removed from the web site. Are they going to remove that lift?

The website still lists 5 lifts. I'd file it under clerical error at this point.

Closing day at CM featured moguls, glades, cruisers and pretty much everything skiing related. Weather was pure bluebird.

A difference from past years: CM announced that skinning and earning turns would be allowed as long as the snow lasts.

A shame to close with so much great terrain still open. 100% open? Were the crowds gone? From my obersvations, Wachusett has still had pretty strong crowds even during the weekdays.

I thought there was a good crowd, both today and yesterday and the consensus of most of those to whom I spoke today was incredulity. Kind of like having full inventory in your store: at least - have a "going out of business sale" rather than just locking the door!

After skiing a great day on Friday with everything available with a deep base, I find it disappointing to see them close. Stockholders before skiers I guess, they already have our money. I went to Pat's Peak today, also everything available with a good base, but not quite Crotched deep. They are closed midweek but aiming for a final send-off next weekend if the weather holds. I hope they pull it off and they'll get my business. . Crotched should have announced something similar......

Agree: Based on the crowd, they were clearly profitable on the weekend of the 25th/26th. The snow is paid for, so it doesn't take a full parking lot to cover costs.

Heard from a reliable source: CM exceeded 100K skier visits this season.

Crowds were very light Saturday. Sunday was higher with a race. The mountain doesn't make a dime from those that brown bag and BYOB. I (respectfully) disagree with @joshua_segal regarding his profitability assessment.

At $20 an hour labor costs have increased 50% from last year. Seasonal staff make plans to move on to new jobs based on closing dates.

Can't we celebrate the best closing day in the mountain's history? Can't we be thankful they made enough snow to guarantee this? For a weekend or two can't we drive 45 minutes more to Sunapee?

No, we must whine.

FWIW, Saturday will be a bust if the forecast holds.

I like what Oak Mt did: Saturday closing day, Sunday Employee Appreciation Day...owners ran the lift for them. Let's see one of the Borgs do that? Yes, it's a matter of scale, yadda yadda yadda, but anyway, the gesture is nice.

That is a Vail answer: just drive somewhere else. March 26 isn't exactly a closing date to be toasting the snowmakers over. Places like Whaleback and Storrs Hill (with small /poor snowmaking) had nearly identical season lengths and closed with plenty of coverage.

That's my answer. I don't speak for Vail. Did you ski this weekend? We didn't have "plenty of coverage", it was edge to edge and deep.

Most Vail resorts tend to have an "employee appreciation day" the day after the lifts close for the season to the general public. Pretty sure Broomfield is well aware of this.

Heck, it's not like they send up the last chair of the season and then can lock the place up for the season at that moment. Still a bunch of work, and year end uniform collection from the no year round employees that happens after the lifts stop spinning for the general public
