I've skied SS in far worse condition on their closing day before! Though, the weekend would be challenging for sure, especially given the weather.

May had many cold nights, some below freezing at elevation. Low humidity and not too much rain. It was a lame-o start to the summer (hard to believe it is already June!), but great for snow preservation on SS. I've had a lot of colder bike rides, I don't usually wear cold weather gear much during May, but I did this year!

Don't forget two major late season storms really helped solidify the late season base. That was three feet of snow in two weeks during a below average snow year.

Lots of factors contributing to June 1 skiing for sure. Obviously, World Cup snow goes a long way. But the weather played really nice with K this year. Good show, I was happy with my last lift serviced day on Saturday.

That is without question. There likely will be no to minimal walking today...fairly unheard of on closing day. The question is going into this weekend. I stand certain the snow pack would be far worse than anything seen on closing day and not "far better". Today is it regardless, it's the right call.

I can't believe it's June already also. May has been delightful. Sunny, low humidity and fairly dry. It was 44F here this morning. A few isolated spots in Connecticut were down to 34F. Chilly for late May.

You seem to be getting very different weather than we are having in Maine. It was 90 degrees yesterday, and today's high is in the mid 90s. I'd like some of that cooler weather please!

Completely different. Yesterday was 74/56.

Today and tomorrow are hot though 92F and 94F respectively.

June 1st 2019 was TTB at opening. But the headwall quickly melted.

That being said, let's look at the webcam on Sunday and make our comments then!
I will set the Sunday photo over/under number of non connected patches of snow at 7. I think I would wager on the over

Sunday is still a few days away, but here is the 9AM Fri. view. I suspect that the same bare spots that showed up before Thursday's groom will reappear quickly and continue to grow. Except for the very bottom, the rest still looks pretty good.

Was there no uphill access allowed once they got down to just SS? I can see not wanting that while lifts were spinning or grooming but was it completely not allowed during other times as well?

Yes, there was a no uphill policy, but it was largely ignored except during grooming operations.

I declare SS skiable with 5-breaks (exactly as predicted above). I suspect if Killington had opened, at least one of the breaks could have been groomed out!

As see at least two, maybe 3 different breaks where you put the number 4. Even if there were only 5 breaks, that would still make for 6 disconnected patches of snow, which is what was being guessed. Realistic, I'd say that there are 7-8 disconnected significant patches.

To me, it looks like 8 patches, although there may actually be more.

I skied Killington three times on 6/1. Twice on K peak with the double chair and mid-station. I think the first was 1983. I skied once when they switched to Superstar, perhaps the first year. There was much more snow. I think there were 3 breaks that required walking.

They'd repair best they could and open that only if today was June 1 and a weekend day. Other than that, forget about it. You'd have to mud ski / walk from tower 4 down. There is no repairing below that.

They could likely make down to "4" on the picture continuous albeit a cat or two wide, no doubt. Maybe a walk down the headwall per usual. That'd be quite the slog down below tower 4 though.

They've run the lift with far more walking below tower 4! This was Memorial Day 2016:

Not saying that will ever happen again (no charge for lift tickets that day). But everyone needs to keep perspective on K's tolerance for down hiking. The fact that the headwall did not need to be down hiked at any point this season is amazing.

Don't forget that I skied 20 months straight a few years ago. I didn't interpret the question as "how many patches would there be if they pushed snow to link them together," I interpreted it as simply "how many disconnected patches of snow will be left." I can see a visible break in the snow, although sometimes a small one, between each patch that I labelled.
