Bag storage in base lodges

wasn't too many years ago I went to Montage and assorted non-skiing ski club and cub scout moms had laid siege to all the tables with bags and jackets and what have you. "This is reserved" "these seats are saved" ...it was ridiculous.

Not a fan at all of these no-bag rules, but at the same time I wonder if the chicken preceded the egg
Well the “store your bags outside” rule just goes against what having a ski lodge is for. Originally it was a place to boot up and get warm. Now it’s a commercial venue devoid of spirit.

There has to be a happy medium between non skiing moms hoarding tables and storing the bags outside in the weather.

Ah, yet another way the big resorts are creating an "unforgettable skiing experience".

The sad thing is that many areas instituting this hostile policy are not big resorts or corps. Many are on the Indy Pass, too.

Everyone needs to start voting your displeasure with your wallet. Don't give your hard earned dollars to areas that won't let you boot up and leave your bag in the lodge.

I have skied at Jay and Ragged this year on my pass, both allow booting up and bags in the lodge. Booting up at my car is a big reason for me not to visit a particular area.

Abram was packed this weekend, but no one was leaving bags unattended on tables. Almost all unattended bags were in, on top of, or right next to the cubbies around the walls of the lodge. I haven't really noticed people leaving bags unattended on tables as being much of a problem anywhere I've skied lately, except Pleasant Mountain. Maybe it speaks to the kind of people that ski at these big resorts which feel the need to ban indoor bag storage?

The only place that I've skied this season which doesn't allow indoor bag storage was Sunday River.

Outdoor bag storage is just plain wrong in many ways. I just boot up at the car most days, and rarely ski anywhere with this policy, but I won't be happy if I come across the situation.

I avoid South Ridge like the plague when I do ski there. I prefer White Cap, but started at Barker on my previous visit. What is The Bag? Is it a separate building just for bag storage?

The weirdest thing was that in the Barker Lodge, they didn't fill in the empty spaces where they took out the cubbies in the lodge. It's just dead space now.

Yes, it's a separate area just for bags. It used to be something else, can't remember what. I too avoid South Ridge. All these big areas really need to just put the cubbies back. What a terrible customer experience for those who choose to boot up in the lodge. I definitely get not having bags all over tablets and anywhere they will fit (or not), but leaving bags outside is not the answer

I too avoid South Ridge, using Barker most of the time. But I only ski midweek. During Covid I/we parked along the road to Barker. We dressed at the car, then skied down to White Cap to use the bathroom. If White Cap lift was a HSQ, that under used lodge might be more popular.

Not that I disagree with you, especially since I was 0 for 2 last weekend BUT according to the above info; Jay, West, Saddleback, Dartmouth, Bolton, Berkshire East, Black Maine, Magic, S6(maybe) Black NH(limited) are all Indy and all have indoor free storage.

I haven't been to Big Rock, Caty, or the Whale in a while so IDK about those or the other ones in NY. I can tell you Pomerelle does! :)

Cannon, Pat's and Waterville do not. And somebody correct me if I am wrong. Waterville has the most expensive Indy lockers at min. of $10.

Then again I had a seasonal locker at my time at MS and that IDK probably averaged more than $10 a day, but fit 4 pairs of skis or more. And in a pinch you could even eat your lunch down there.

My biggest problem I saw at Jiminy on Friday night was there seemed like no effort to store bags around the edges of the lodge or under the tables. People just put their stuff on the tables and left. Now most of the people on Friday night were teens from the ski clubs, but that still shouldn’t matter

Right, I never said all Indy's. Cannon, Pats, and Waterville are the ones that immediate came to mind. I was just rebutting a previous comment that suggested this was a corporate resort thing, but it is happening at a variety of different types of ski areas.

No you didn’t say all, you said many. IDK if that is more than a few or less than several. Those 3 have to be some of the busiest of the east Indy but I don’t like it.

What's the deal with outdoor bag storage, Geez? If a resort feels that bags are an issue and/or interfering with lodge/food/booze revenue, give people a free bag drop.

You should see the size of the permanently parked food truck at WV. Probably 4x the foootprint size of their "free" outside bag storage. And the diesel fumes are awesome.

King Pine outdoors when IMHO they have plenty of room in the back room in the lodge. What I don’t get is, it is right below a gutterless roof with no overhang. Unless they moved it from the far end of the lodge that has a high longer overhang.

Cranmore: plenty of room in their new base lodge lower level. Another 5 x 4 section to the right. Also a 5x10 or so section upstairs outside on the patio but completely covered by the building.

Jiminy Peak, MA. No bags allowed upstairs in JJ's Lodge. There are some lockers in the basement. There is a free bag check tent outside. In Crane Lodge however, people are leaving bags along the walls, and wherever.
I was just at Jiminy on Friday evening and the no Bags up stairs in JJ's was not enforced at all. We had to move bags off the table just so we could have a place to eat.

Frantic Friday Night! Many busloads of teens. Lots of energy that's hard to contain. The no bags is likely enforced on busy weekends.

Based on the new and newer renovated lodges I've encountered, I guess ski areas no longer feel skiers need to hang up their wet jackets any more. I got one of the 4 coat hooks on WV's 2nd floor Sunday. Pro-tip: There's single one next to the barista..so it still smells like coffee.
And I haven't seen any areas hand out free plastic poncho bags on rain days like they used to either. Let me tell you people were jealous of our 22 year old Tremblant rain bags on St Paddy's Day.
