No diminution of trail count. No blue ice. Snowmaking pond refilling nicely. The temperature rise that quietman mentioned happened at CM also, but it was quick and short.

How's the pond filling up? It looked really low yesterday. Hopefully it will be good to go for the incoming cold snap 🫰

It was up a couple of feet today and I noticed late this PM that they are pumping up from the swamp. I suspect there is an adequate supply of water to make a lot of snow in the upcoming cold snap.

CM is about 50% open. The dry fall has the snowmaking pond recovering slowly. Many great snowmaking opportunities were passed over due to inadequate water supplies impeding further trail expansion.

What is open remains well-covered with the best conditions in the AM following the overnight groom. Surfaces get fast by the late PM. Hopefully, the rain next week will fill the pond with minimal damage to the already open terrain.

Saturday Jan. 4th. A warmer streak coming to a close, crotched fired up the guns last night to resurface the open terrain from a fairly full pond.

Snowmaking continues aggressively on Magnitude and the big Park throughout the day. All other open trails have a fresh packed powder surface that is holding up well thanks to last night's low temps when they were laid down.

Tonight may see some action on a few additional trails. Crews are building a smaller park near the triple chair, which is running today.

Crowds are moderate with mlnute lift lines.

Sunday Jan 5th.
They had the same 11 trails open as earlier in the week.

The refresh they did Thursday and Friday provided good conditions that held up remarkable well given the size of the crowd. The ski school groups started this weekend, so lots of kids which was good to see. They were making snow on Re-Entry, Jupiter's Storm and a little on Zero G. Several large whales on Magnitude, Big Dipper and CM Park. Apparently they are preparing Magnitude for a mogul competition next weekend.

Given all the criticism Vail properties have been receiving, it appears Crotched has been doing a great job this year again. Hat's off the staff

How's that improvement at "Hell's Corner" working out?

Added this week: Blastoff, Jupiter's, Big Dipper, Reentry, Comet, Lower part of Shooting Star. Brought back: Magnitude is being prepared for a free-style event and was closed for several days. It was re-opened to the public yesterday (1/9/25). ALso, Retro was reopened. As of now, we are out of water and about 80% open.

Crotched got a pretty solid amount of snow today. Comet drop looked solid, lots of poachers on that trail today. The terrain park by Jupiter storm didn’t look terrible. Dark star was tempting but knowing there was nothing underneath this fresh snow I knew it wasn’t really worth it. It seems like we’ll have solid snow preservation temps for a couple weeks, hopefully some more inches of snow come to make the trees a realistic option.

The snowmakers determined there is (maybe) enough water to try to put Pluto's and NCC-1701 on the list of open terrain. Guns were starting up as the area closed today (MLK Day).

Comet Drop definitely isn't ready, but opening Final Frontier today could have been categorized as a flip of a coin.

Solstice Glade (the Glade - not the trail) was skied pretty heavily and held up reasonably well to the traffic. Some of the glades and chutes to the west of Final Frontier were skiing pretty nicely.

What happened to the Rocket? Is it down for the count tomorrow? Sunapee is too crowded on Friday 🤔. Might be an Indy day.

Pluto's opened at 2:30 today, and the afternoon corduroy was sweet!!! Rocket is TBD from what I heard.

Jan. 24 (Friday): The Rocket went down last night around 7:30 PM. I was told (don't know if true) that the drive shaft broke. They were able get those on the lift unloaded with the auxiliary diesel.

I wasn't working today, so I went to Sunapee. (Saw a lot of CM regulars there.) Had a good time but their product (IMO) isn't nearly as good as ours. There were lines, but not bad ones.

The Rocket was repaired, and it was up and running around 3:00 PM. When I got home from Sunapee, I went out and took a few runs.

The season, which has already been good, is just getting better. No major snowstorm, but a couple of inches every other day for the last week and the forecast calling for similar for at least the rest of the week. This pattern was common in the late 20th century and it's wonderful, especially when accompanied by the absence of a thaw!

Same here in CVT....it adds up! Hopefully the storm later in the week brings more snow than the other type of precip...

I don't participate in Joshua's season rating thread, but this season just took a big leap forward for me thanks to a 3 hour stretch in the glades this afternoon. I did not try any of the far west off map trees, and things are still a little thin in areas, but I had a great time and joined up with Joshua for a bunch of runs. The t-bar line is one that I would wait for some more snow before hitting again, but was nice to see the added pads on the old towers. Also nice that they left a narrow line of bumps under the rocket.
