I assumed the graphic had the incorrect state, it shows Gray 1.7″ below average… which is to say, it is almost average (within the margin of error of measurements). Calling that below average is pedantic.

The focus on total natural snow is IMO as important as the absence of melt downs in evaluating a season.

Yes there was big race on Sunday.

I don’t keep detailed notes on each ski season, but in my area this year is similar to last year but more extreme in every category. More snow, more cold, less melt. Therefore it has to rank above 2024-2025. Let’s see what happens in March and April. However it’s almost meaningless to generalize about the ski season from northern Maine to RI.

With all the program lessons, after school programs, and race programs finished, Bradford has little incentive to stay open much later despite 2-3 ft of snow on the ground.

My opinion about this season continues to decline. We’ve really only had one good storm during the past two months. Whatever snow is falling right now will all be melted, and then some, by tomorrow afternoon.

The forecast for the next 1-2 weeks shows nothing but warm and wet. Hopefully, we get some good spring skiing days out of it. But unless we have a major storm after mid-March, this season has fizzled out big time. Despite the strong start, this season is sliding into the upper end of the middle tier for NNE.

On the plus side, even without another storm, we are entering the spring with really solid base depths. But with lows in the 30s and highs in the 50s-60s in the forecast for the coming week, bases are going to take a major hit.

NNE didn’t do as well as SNE. A foot in some places in the whites, a few inches at Jay. The blizzard was in CT and the cape…. and that was the biggest storm of the past two months for the mountains that did get snow.

I’ve previously pointed out how amazing the season has been for southern areas. That said, unless you ski the local hills exclusively, it benefits everyone most to have the mountains get the most snow. Even when I lived in the Boston area, I hoped for snow in the mountains even if it meant rain in my backyard (those are actually the best types on storms, IMO).

Last Saturday was the first day over 35 degrees since the January storm at CM. For over a month we’ve had nothing but powder and packed powder with at least a half dozen storms with accumulating snow. The blizzard that lotsoskiing mentioned dumped about 8″ here, but was not a great powder day due to wind. It’s dumping here now with 4″ down and more snow on the way in 3 of the next four days. Hard to believe that we are the only area having a banner season.

Exactly. The 4″ we got overnight was completely gone by this afternoon.

The 4″ essentially undid all of Saturday’s damage. Everything was skiable again after a few rough days. It hit the high 40s but with low humidity and a little breeze, the snow never turned to mashed potatoes. And , by the way: By 4PM today, what little snow hadn’t been skied in, was pretty much gone affirming my oft stated line, “An inch in January lasts longer than a foot in March.”

The difference is, while the March snow is gone, the January snow is still here!

NoVT snowpack has fallen behind last year, and is WAY behind 2018-2019. High temps are forecasted to be be between 43-56*F at Jay from Saturday through Wednesday (even warmer further south, as high as the 60s in central and southern NH) and lots of passing rain throughout that period.

The projected colder temps starting in mid-March will only help if there is new snow, as well. Otherwise, I’d rather have spring skiing and let the meltdown begin. Cold temps after a wet warm up without new snow means hard pack frozen gran, no thanks.
